P5–P7 Educational Visit to W5 Belfast
30th Mar 2026
Pupils from P5, P6 and P7 recently took part in an enriching educational visit to W5 Belfast, engaging in a full day of hands‑on scientific and technological learning. Throughout the trip, pupils demonstrated excellent behaviour, teamwork and curiosity, reflecting positively on the school and wider community.
The day began in the Level 5 Auditorium with the Demystifying AI workshop. This interactive session introduced pupils to the principles of artificial intelligence, exploring the differences between human and machine thinking, the role of data in AI decision‑making, and the importance of fairness and responsibility in modern technology.
Following the workshop, pupils enjoyed a session on Climbit, W5’s multi‑storey climbing structure. This activity encouraged confidence, problem‑solving, coordination and peer support, providing a dynamic physical challenge to complement the morning’s technology‑based learning.
After their climbing activity, some pupils continued their learning by visiting Level 2, where they explored exhibits focused on forces, motion and physical science. These hands‑on stations enabled pupils to investigate energy, movement and mechanical concepts through practical interactive displays.
Pupils then moved to Level 4 to take part in activities within the AMAZE AI workshop space. Here they learned how AI works behind the scenes, how robots learn and respond, and how emerging technologies support creativity and problem‑solving. This workshop offered practical insights into coding, digital thinking and real‑world AI applications.
To conclude their STEM exploration, pupils also engaged with the wider range of interactive technology exhibits available on Level 4. This included hands‑on digital stations that deepened their understanding of robotics, computational thinking and modern technological design.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to experience STEM learning in a real‑world context, combining scientific investigation, digital exploration and physical activity. Their engagement and conduct were exemplary throughout the day, and the experience supported both their academic development and personal growth.
