P6/7 Study the Solar System

12th Feb 2020

Primary 6/7 have been learning about the universe, and spent time observing the phases of the moon and the stars at night. When learning about the Solar System, we used our numeracy skills to calculate the scales we needed to show the distance planets sit from the sun and their relative size.

It took a bit of work and the use of formulae, but we were soon ready to measure the distance and then make the planets from clay. The size of planets surprised us as we realised if Jupiter had a diameter of 5.7cm, tiny Pluto would have a diameter of only 0.4mm!
